Wine, Cheese & Fruit
with the Fam
While I was at home, my parents and I had a wine and cheese pairing, and we threw some fruit in there too. We started off with Raymond Napa Reserve Chardonnay 2020 paired with brie. This paring was excellent. The Chardonnay was very sweet and we tasted tree fruit such as pears, and also citrus flavors. The brie was salty and sweet, and very buttery. Together the brie cut the citrus of the wine and softened it. It was very good.

The next pairing we had was also very good. The wine was Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2019 and we had it with parmesan. The pinot has had very strong cherry flavors and some anise as well as a little spice and the end. The parmesan was very salty and rich as well as bold. Both pieces were bold and harmonized together. This wine paired very well with the fruits as well. We had balsamic cherries that matched perfectly in my opinion.

The next and final pairing was unfortunately the worst. Last minute I decided to switch the Spanish wine with a Bordeaux from 2015. This wine was a little to old and had lost its structure. We paired it with Manchego and while the cheese was super sweet and rich and tangy, the wine did not have much to offer. The wine was still drinkable and was probably very good 5 years ago.
Overall this was a fun time with my parents. Mixing the wines with the cheeses and the fruits was a nice time. I think the brie was the best cheese with wine as it softened and cut the acidity of the wines which i liked. The cherries were also one of the best fruit.
