Tasting - Bee You Riesling

Name: Bee You Riesling

Variety:  Riesling

Region: California

Country: USA

Year: 2022

Price: 11.99

Wine Review: Refreshing and smooth, this wine has flavors of juicy peach and wild honey with a perfect touch of sweetness.

Wine Folly: Off-dry Riesling wines make a great pairing to spicy Indian and Asian cuisines and do excellently alongside duck, pork, bacon, shrimp, and crab (p. 158).

My Review: This wine was good. This more of a dry resiling and was not overly sweet. I tasted honey and citrus and some other tree fruits. I wish this wine had a little more flavor and characteristics. (2/5)

Tasting - Montebuena Rioja Tempranillo Cuvee KPF 2020 Rioja, Spain

Name: Montebuena Rioja Tempranillo Cuvee KPF 2020 Rioja, Spain

Variety:  Tempranillo

Region: Rioja

Country: Spain

Year: 2020

Price: 11.99

Wine Review: Montebuena displays a brilliant deep ruby red color. Aromas of juicy fruit combine with a spicy vanilla bouquet. Smooth and fruity in the mouth, with some well-integrated secondary nuances. Full-flavored with a persistent, pleasant finish.

Wine Folly: Spain’s top variety, made famous by the wines of Rioja, where wines are classified by how long they age in oak. Fine Tempranillo ages 20+ years but costs a little more (p. 175).

My Review: This wine was delicious. This was the first Spanish wine I had and I think they are very good. I thought it had a very light body, and was acidic. I tasted cigar smoke, dark cherry and other berry flavors. Lastly, I tasted multiple spices that paired well with my food. I had Taco Rice and Cheese. (3/5)

Tasting - Liberty Creek Chardonnay

Name: Liberty Creek Chardonnay

Variety:  Chardonnay

Region: California

Country: USA

Year: N/A

Price: 3.99

Wine Review: Our Chardonnay is made in a lighter style with an emphasis on crisp flavors of fresh citrus and inviting apple aromas. Well-balanced and easy to-enjoy, its finish is remarkably smooth and clean.

Wine Folly: One of the world’s most popular grapes, Chardonnay is made in a wide range of styles from sparkling Blanc de Blancs to rich, creamy white wines aged in oak (p. 96).

My Review: This wine was a nice cheap treat. It was very fruity and dry. I tasted some oranges and grapefruit. I was surprised that it was not very floral. The more I drank the more it tasted sour like a granny smith apple. I did not have this wine with any food. (1/5)

Tasting - Barefoot Sweet Red Blend

     Name: Barefoot Sweet Red Blend

Varietal:  Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Barbera, Grenache and Petite Sirah

Region: California

Country: USA

Year: N/A

Price: 3.99

Wine Review: Barefoot Sweet Red Blend is a juicy red wine packed with dark fruit. Rich bands of raspberry, cherry and pomegranate blend together, leading to a smooth, luscious finish.

Wine Folly: Several regions within Sonoma and Napa are famous for Zinfandel including Rockpile, Dry Creek Valley, Chiles Valley, and Howell Mountain. Wines here offer bold tannins, colors, and rustic flavors thanks to the region’s volcanic soils (p. 190).

My Review: This wine was a nice cheap treat. It was very sweet and had a thick mouthfeel. I tasted some strawberry and some caramel flavor as well. I tasted other berries but I couldn't put a name to them. I did not have this wine with any food. (1/5)

Tasting - Chevalier Du Grand Robert 2021 Côtes-Du-Rhône Rouge

Name: Chevalier Du Grand Robert 2021 Côtes-Du-Rhône Rouge

Variety: 65% Grenache, 35% Syrah

Region: Southern Rhône

Country: France

Year: 2021

Price: 10.99

Wine Review: Deep purple color. Aromas and flavors of strawberry licorice, fennel, balsamic vinegar, and garrigue with a velvety, vibrant, dry medium-to-full body and a warming, elegant, medium-long finish manifesting notes of red and black fruit with tart red fruits, thyme, sage and rosemary and polished saddle leather with a suggestion of oak flavor. A straightforward, balanced, and reliable Rhone blend for easy food pairings.

Wine Folly: Grenache produces rich, flavorful red wines as well as deep ruby-tinted rosé. Grenache is the most important variety in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the Rhône / GSM Blend (p. 117).

My Review: This wine was very disappointing. It smelled very off and alcoholic and very big olive tatste. I tried to enjoy the wine and was able to taste some berry. Overall this wine was very vinigeray and unpleasent (0/5)

Tasting - Dellatorri Tuscan Red

Name: Dellatorri Tuscan Red

Varietal: Sangiovese

Region: Toscana Rosso, Central Italy

Country: Italy

Year: 2021

Price: 10.99

Wine Review: Deep in color with aromas of black currant and rich black cherry that elegantly interlace with subtle oak spice.

Wine Folly: The high acidity allows Sangiovese to match well with all manner of well-spiced foods. It’s one of the few wines that will not get lost when paired with tomato sauce (p. 162).

My Review: This was an amazing wine. It was dry and very fruity/juicy. I tasted strawberry, and a hay/ tobacco smokey taste. I also tasted vegetative and some other berry. I also think I tasted raisin. The wine also had an amazing spice taste. This paired perfectly with my pasta. My pasta was pesto and spicy mix and the spices of both paired so well. This was the best wine I have purchased so far (4/5).

Tasting - Barefoot chardonnay

 Name: Barefoot chardonnay

Varietal: Chardonnay

Region: Modesto, California

Country: USA

Year: N/A

Price: 8.99

Wine Review: Effusively fruity and also a bit buttery, this easy-going wine drenches the palate in apple, peach and vanilla flavors while a mostly soft texture helps give it a sweet-seeming finish. — Jim Gordon (Wine Enthusiast)

Wine Folly: One of the world’s most popular grapes, Chardonnay is made in a wide range of styles from sparkling Blanc de Blancs to rich, creamy white wines aged in oak (p. 96).

My Review: This was a very cheap white wine, and it tasted as such. I tasted pears and some honey, but it was so bitter and tart that it was almost undrinkable. Somehow not worth the price (0/5)

I did not taste this wine with any food.

Tasting - Kings of Prohibition Red Blend

Name: Kings of Prohibition Red Blend

Variety: Blend (Could not find grapes, but I assume Syrah was a main one)

Region: Southeastern, Australia

Country: Australia

Year: N/A

Price: 16.99

Winery Review: Vibrant hue with dense red core in colour. Strawberry leaf, blood plum, boysenberry & cherry notes with oregano and vanilla oak aromas. On the palate notes of dark chocolate appear with a full bodied and rich, yet subtle finish. The tannins are grippy, yet ripe and pleasing to drink balanced with the dark core of sweet fruit.

Wine Folly: Where there is great Syrah, there is also great Grenache and Monastrell (called Mataro here). You’ll find them all over South Australia, but definitely investigate McLaren Vale and Barossa Valley for great quality (p. 206).

My Review: This wine was dry yet still had some sweetness. I tasted dark notes of fruit and a peppery aftertaste. This is my first Australian wine, and I like the way theirs had multiple hints or fruits. Overall, enjoyable but pricy (2/5).

I did not taste this wine with any food.
